Braces for Better Health

Braces are a staple in nearly every podiatry office. Braces or AFOs are often a first line of treatment for patients with anything from ankle instability to more serious issues like posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD) or advanced neuromuscular disease.

But for patients with no insurance, a brace is a luxury few can afford. Recently, IDEASTEP donated several boxes of new braces to the Berks Community Health Center, located in Reading, PA. This Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) provides primary healthcare to patients regardless of their ability to pay. Reading, PA is located about 20 miles south of Kutztown, PA home of IDEASTEP.

“We knew both adults and children could benefit from these braces,” said Lindsay Sokol Szejko, director of Customer Experience and second-generation owner of IDEASTEP. SOLO contacted the Berks Community Health Center to see if they would accept the donations and they were greeted with an enthusiastic “of course,” by the team at the health center.

Dr. Noahleen Betts, staff podiatrist at the Berks Community Health Center was delighted with the variety of sizes and styles of the braces. “We have a significant amount of patients who are uninsured or underinsured and cannot afford braces,” added Dr. Betts. “We commended IDEASTEP for their gracious donation to Berks Community Health Center.”

“By working with those in need, SOLO lives its mission to Serve Others, Love Others. We’ve been doing that since 1983 and continue to look for new ways to put our mission into action,” said Lindsay.
