Conditions such as foot drop, poroneal neuropathies and dysfunctional gait can become a nuisance to live with, making day to day life a little bit harder in places. The Boxia Drop Foot AFO Brace is designed to prevent foot drop, using a dynamic 2-part wraparound design that can hold the foot in a more comfortable place.
Using the brace is simple, however you may be faced with difficulties when you first try to put the brace on. This short article explains How to Fit Your Boxia Drop Foot AFO Brace, allowing you to get moving as soon as your brace has arrived in the post.
Which Size Should I Choose?
The first hurdle that you have to overcome when you purchase your brace is to choose the correct size. To choose your size correctly, please follow the next few steps:
- Measure the ankle circumference just above the ankle bone
- Measure the foot circumference behind the ball of the foot
- Consult the table below to find the correct size for you
|Size||Ankle Circumference (cm)||Foot Circumference (cm)|
|Extra Small||13 – 17cm||N/A|
|Small||17 – 21cm||17 – 21cm|
|Medium||21 – 25cm||21 – 25cm|
|Large||25 – 29cm||25 – 29cm|
Components of the AFO Foot Brace
Each Boxia AFO Brace unit consists of the following components:
- Ankle Strap for fitting around the ankle
- Hook for placing inside the shoe
- Tension Straps ensure the brace stays in place
- S-Shaped Hook connects the strap and the hook
Boxia Foot Drop Step by Step Guide
Step 1: Place the Tongue and Hook Attachment
Untie your shoe, and place the plate hook attachment between the tongue of the shoe and the shoelaces. This should rest in place, as seen in the image below.
Step 2: Fit the Ankle Strap
Fit the ankle strap above the ankle, making sure the gel pad and Achilles tendon meet. You can see exactly where to place the gel pad in the image below.
Step 3: Connecting the Strap with the Hook
Attach the tension strap to the hook, connect it with the s-shaped hook and proceed to pull the ends with the Velcro fastening on them, fixing them after obtaining the desired traction. Again, you can clearly see this on the image below.
Are You Still Struggling?
If you are still struggling then don't panic. This useful video from the makers of the AFO Boxia Brace gives you a visual demonstration on how to fit the brace.
- Make sure you choose the right size for your ankle.
- If possible, wear comfortable shoes that can easily be donned with the plate hook.
- Secure the S-shaped hook as firmly as possible to guarantee the brace stays in place
